Position Summary

Provides clinical oversight for practice staff. Accountable for ensuring high quality evidence-based nursing care in a clinic setting, triaging of patient clinical referrals and phone calls, collaborating with other departments and disciplines to ensure timely and quality patient care, supporting clinical staff through the development of clinical policies and daily clinic operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Under limited supervision:


  • Triage of calls for urgent appointments, referrals for patient consults and testing, incoming clinical questions

  • Collect data about the health status of the patient

  • Assist providers in all aspects of consultation, treatment, procedures and follow up care

  • Perform insurance pre-authorizations as needed to support timely and quality care

  • Provide instructions/teaching to the patient according to the educational and/or surgical plan

  • Assist the providers with minor procedures

  • Perform nursing procedures including but not limited to, dressings, suture removal, and injections

  • Complies with professional and departmental documentation standards

  • Participate in the development of the plan of care with other team members and safely implement that care

  • Collaborate with other disciplines within the Middlesex Hospital organization to provide coordination and continuity of care for patients.

  • Develops clinical policies and procedures pertaining to clinic operations and support clinical staff.

  • Assesses and makes recommendation for clinical workflow processes

  • Adjusts staffing assignments as needed to ensure patient care

  • Provide input on clinical staff performance, collaborate with Practice Manager regarding staff issues/concerns

  • Other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Registered Nurse who is a graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a valid State of Connecticut license.
  • Minimum of one year of hospital experience.
  • Two years of physician office experience.
  • One year of previous supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electronic health record highly preferred

  • Supervisory experience

  • Excellent computer skills, including Google

  • Independent, self-directed and highly motivated
