The Psychiatric Services Registered Nurse is a key associate at Hope Network whose primary responsibilities include:providing necessary nursing services to various service lines and programs based on the need. The Psychiatric Services RN has a broad knowledge of psychiatric assessment and intervention skills that can be incorporated into varying program’s scope of services. This role utilizes a Recovery Based process that consists of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential. The Psychiatric Services Registered Nurse works with psychiatrists to ensure good outcomes for persons served, the individuals involved in their care and includes collaborating with internal and external providers to coordinate psychiatric treatment with medical treatment. The position may manage pharmaceutical and medical supplies and oversees medication monitoring and administration under a psychiatrist or advanced practice provider. This position promotes trauma informed, person centered, and culturally competent practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential requirement of this position.
  2. Provides on-call nursing services and be able to respond in emergency situations, 24/7 as assigned in Residential and Crisis Residential Settings.
  3. Provides excellent customer service, always being courteous, responsive, professional, and helpful to the organization’s internal and external customers.
  4. Oversees person served individualized recovery process relating to their health through support in managing their disease through clinical treatment.
  5. Embraces the concept of Recovery by providing a stable and safe environment and supporting the engagement of meaningful activities.
  6. Documents all encounters and contacts made on behalf of persons served, within designated timeframes.
  7. Provides and/or assists in providing appropriate medical, nursing, or other health care in various setting as needed.
  8. Participates in the assessment of the physical, functional, and psychological needs of persons served, as required.
  9. Participates in the development of Treatment Plans by assisting persons served in setting goals linked to addressing identified medical and psychiatric needs, as required.
  10. Provides referral to appropriate community resources, facilitate access and communication when multiple services are involved; monitor activities to ensure that services are being delivered and meet the needs of the persons served; coordinate services to avoid duplication.
  11. Maintains accurate records and confidentiality pertaining to persons served.
  12. Monitors persons served progress toward health care related goal achievements and periodically reassess changes in methods and techniques; coordinate other services as needed.
  13. Identifies emergency crisis, make immediate clinical assessments and respond according to accepted crisis intervention methods and techniques.
  14. Manage pharmaceuticals and medical supplies within the program.
  15. Conducts health screenings and perform health assessments as necessary.
  16. Takes the lead role and participates in providing medication administrative management and monitoring.
  17. Conducts AIMS tests on persons served, as needed.
  18. Prepares data and produce ad-hoc reports in a timely manner, as requested.
  19. Prepares for, and participates in the facilitation of, internal and external audits, as assigned.
  20. Attends and actively participates in program’s staff team meetings.
  21. May include supervisory duties for LPN’s, including interviewing, evaluating, clinical support, and overseeing job performance.
  22. Performs any other function deemed appropriate and assigned by the supervisor.

Position Qualifications:

  1. Registered Nurse or Bachelor Science in Nursing
  2. State of Michigan RN Licensure
  3. Maintain a valid motor vehicle operator license with driving records acceptable according to Hope Network policy.
  4. Preferred four or more years of psychiatric nursing experience.
  5. Ability to demonstrate good moral character and even temperament necessary to gain and maintain credibility and trust of persons served and co-workers.
  6. Demonstrated ability to communicate in verbal and written formats to meet position requirements.
  7. Understands the concept of Motivational Interviewing
  8. Knowledge about Stages of Change, Trauma Informed Care, Seeking Safety, Family Psychoeducation
  9. Ability to schedule/plan work in advance and set effective and realistic timelines to meet goals.
  10. Knowledge of or ability to learn, the use of technological advances that include, but is not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet, fax/copy machines, cell phones, etc.
  11. Ability to work independently with flexible hours including occasional nights, holidays or weekends to ensure highest level of care for persons served.
