The Electrical Instrument Technician Supervisor position functions as essential support for the re-refinery by applying knowledge of instrument/electrical and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation, while providing skilled instrumentation and electrical support.

Essential Duties:

  • Will be responsible for repairing/troubleshooting/calibrating control valves including digital valve positioners, temperature transmitters, flow transmitters, pressure transmitters, O2/Comb meters, LEL/H2S meters, level transmitters (dp, GWR, Radar, Mag), switches, motor starters, pushbuttons, etc.. as needed.
  • Oversee PM’s and instrument inspections, recording and reporting observations.
  • Works with Parts Coordinator to maintain spare parts inventory and submit order requests as needed to maintain minimum stock levels.
  • Observes and tests the operation of instruments and electrical equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using testing devices.
  • Maintains compliance with Industry Specific Standards such as NEC, API, and NRC standards.
  • Has the ability to use pneumatic and electronic test and calibration equipment associated with process instrumentation.
  • Participates in LOTO activities, including electrician’s role in de-energizing motors, etc
  • Assists in scheduling shutdowns and work outages.
  • Promotes ownership of instrumentation equipment and sets expectations for other instrument techs/ electricians.
  • Works overtime as required to achieve production, and maintenance schedules.
  • Operations are performed 7 days a week 24 hours a day; therefore, continuous support is required including rotational weekend on call support.
  • Manages capital and maintenance projects including the review of electrical, controls, and network drawings, supporting programming and commissioning of the controls system, and providing startup support including troubleshooting and loop tuning.
  • Works with HSSE, and Operations teams to ensure timely, and accurate reports, communications, and historical PI data.
  • Oversees and coordinates Arc flash studies.
  • Oversees, programs, and maintains PLCs and HMI systems. Supports operations and engineering through the MOC/PHA/LOPA process, ongoing maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Participates in safety and other meetings.
  • Ensures proper documentation of the controls systems including cause and effect diagrams, controls narratives, and network drawings.
  • Oversees and coordinates I&E Technicians and contractors providing programming and control systems support.
  • Adheres to all corporate policies and standards.

Work Experience

  • 5+ years of proven experience in Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls preferred.
  • Experience in PLC, DCS, & HMI Programming including Allen Bradley PLCs, and Wonderware HMIs, and Emerson Delta V.
  • Understanding of programming and controls systems including ladder logic, function block, and structured text.
  • Basic supervisory experience preferred.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, or Designations

  • Associate's degree in EET or an accredited apprenticeship accompanied by 5 years of applicable experience

Specific Skills

  • Capability of utilizing phase testers, multi-meters, meggers and other testing equipment.
  • Ability to utilize pneumatic and electronic test and calibration equipment associated with process instrumentation.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
