Role Summary:

The Engineering Intern supports Alaska Airlines Engineering Group in one or more of the following areas: Avionics Engineering, Interiors Engineering, Powerplant Engineering, Structures Engineering, or Systems Engineering. This role performs specific project work that involves learning aspects of aircraft and engine components and development, generation, and major prototyping of specific projects. This is bestowed with a high degree of ownership for the systems involved and accountability to see through these projects.

This co-op program has 2 rotations, the first one in Summer 2025 and the second rotation Summer 2026. This position will be based in Seattle, WA. This position will work at the Alaska Maintenance & Engineering Hangar building located at the SeaTac International Airport.

Key Duties:
  • Learns the basics of assigned aircraft or engine components and develops, generates, prototypes, and implements to each major project for the functional area(s).
  • Learns to interact and partner with other key M&E departments such as Repair Controls, Maintenance Control, and Line Planning as part of project development and prototyping.
  • Interacts with Line Maintenance on Flight Operations to assist with investigation and resolution of mechanical issues.
  • Learn Alaska's proactive approach to maintenance and reliability, as well as providing responsive customer service.
  • Learns key metrics and basic use of trending and analysis tools.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills:

Required

  • Working toward a degree in aviation engineering (aerospace, electrical or mechanical) or a related aviation discipline.
  • Willing and able to commit to two rotations as part of program requirement.
  • Excellent communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening), presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program and have at least one semester or quarter of school remaining after the internship.
  • Must have achieved a sophomore or higher academic standing at the time of application
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Airport SIDA Badge Requirements:

Important notification for employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar: Employees will be required to obtain a SIDA badge provided by the airport authority and maintain good standing in order to keep their SIDA badge. Review the SIDA Badge Requirements document for a comprehensive overview. If an employee does not qualify for a SIDA badge or has their SIDA badge pulled from them, the employee will be terminated.
