Summary
Position Summary:Under the direction and supervision of an attending surgeon, perform a variety of physician assistant patient care duties and technical procedures for patients on the hospital floors, Emergency Room or other care areas in order to deliver health care services to the patient.
Essential Functions: Clinical Practice Provides direct and indirect patientcare while working to optimizing patient safety. Works proactively and in collaboration with other team members and specialty services.
Tasks: Acts as a care coordinator for surgeons, consulting services, nursing staff, etc. Screens patients and performsphysical examinations. Orders/prescribes necessary medications, laboratory andradiologicstudies, routine fluids, diets, patient activities and similar patient care orders. Performs surgical assistant responsibilitiesto includinghandlingtissue, providing exposure, using instruments, suturing and tying and providing hemostasis. Respond to the Emergency Room to manage and/or assist with trauma resuscitation. Instruct patients on discharge information, home care of wounds, use of medication, diet or other aspects of health care.
Requirements:
- NCCPA Certification required
- Maryland PA License
- DEA/CDS Licensure
- American Heart Association BLS
- 1-3 years of APP hospital experience required; Surgical experience preferred
