Position Description:
The Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) provides specialized care for patients undergoing cardiac or vascular surgery. Common procedures in the CVOR include coronary artery bypass surgery, valve replacements, heart transplants, aortic artery repairs, vascular bypass, endarterectomies, and endovascular cardiac surgeries, among others. Nurses in the CVOR are integral members of a highly functioning and dynamic interdisciplinary team, working closely with cardiac and vascular surgeons, advanced practice providers, surgical technologists, perfusionists, anesthesia providers, and support staff. Additional Responsibilities Include:
- · The primary role will be as a circulating nurse in one of our seven cardiac or vascular operating rooms. High volume OR, averaging 30 open heart cases per week.
- On-call obligation required for covering weeknights and both weekend days and nights after the orientation process.
- Works as a team member in the operating room alongside the rest of the surgical team to provide patient-centered care to high acuity patients.
- Ensures the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment and supplies in the operating room for each operation.
- Assists with cleaning operating room after the operation, ensuring proper routing of equipment and used material.
- Organizing and administering individualized, professional patient care to patients within the Operating Room.
- Providing nursing care in accordance with the objectives, policies, procedures and protocols of the hospital and AORN, ASPAN and SGNA standards.
- Participating in patient teaching; incorporating the needs and behavior of the patient’s specific age/cultural groups in planning and providing care.
- Participating in quality improvement activities.
- After orientation there is a possibility for flexible scheduling, including evening or weekend only schedule.
Qualifications
·Current active CT RN License
·Previous OR experience required (OR Novice nurses, including Graduate Nurses, may apply to the OR Nurse Transition to Practice Program)
·BSN Preferred
·Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
·Excellent interpersonal skills
·Independent problem-solving skills
·Excellent communication skills
·CNOR certification preferred
