Location:150 Western Avenue Cambridge MA 02139 US (Onsite)
Work Schedule: 35 hours/week
Duration: 08+ Month’s Contract
Pay Range $35.00 to $40.00/hr.

We are looking for a “Fabrication Manager” to join one of our Fortune 500 clients.

Job Summary
The Fabrication Manager, Teaching and Learning, supports an inclusive and collaborative learning environment within the Science and Engineering Complex. This role involves training, coaching, and mentoring students and postdocs in machining and fabrication techniques while maintaining a safe and functional fabrication shop. The Fabrication Manager interacts with students, researchers, staff, faculty, and vendors to ensure successful project execution and shop operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Mentoring:
  • Provide hands-on training and instruction to students (both undergraduate and graduate), postdoctoral fellows, and researchers on various machine shop techniques, including manual machining (mill, lathe) and the use of Prototrak/Mastercam systems.
  • Conduct 1-on-1 and small group training sessions in the shop.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on research and student projects, offering guidance on machining and fabrication.
Shop Operations and Safety:
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities in the Design and Fabrication Shop, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Reinforce a strong safety culture in collaboration with the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) officers to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for shop equipment.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and troubleshoot equipment for minor repairs.
  • Coordinate with vendors to schedule equipment service or repairs as necessary.
Procurement:
  • Monitor consumable inventories and place orders for stock materials.
  • Communicate with vendors to obtain quotes, prepare purchase requisitions, and manage invoices for equipment orders or repairs.

Qualifications:
Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in manual machining (mills and lathes), particularly with Prototrak/Mastercam.
  • Experience with automotive or mechanical work (motors) is a strong bonus.
Teaching and Mentoring Experience:
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and mentor students or peers in machine shop practices and techniques.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for effective teaching and collaboration.
