Job Summary of the Lead Vascular Technologist
According to unit and hospital policies and procedures, the Lead Vascular Technologist coordinates activities within the designated location as directed by supervisor. According to unit and hospital policies and procedures, the Lead Vascular Technologist is responsible for the performance of non-invasive and invasive ultrasound procedures, making themselves available as a subject matter expert to the team for these exams responsible for the performance of non-invasive and invasive vascular procedures including but not limited to carotid, venous, renal, and arterial doppler procedures including venous ablation and sclerotherapy. This position works closely with other healthcare team members to facilitate exceptional patient care and efficient completion of diagnostic studies while also promoting optimal unit operations. The Lead Vascular Technologist exceeds SDMC ICARE standards while maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe work environment.
Responsibilities of the Lead Vascular Technologist
  • Utilize open, professional communication (verbal, non-verbal, and written) to directly interact with physicians, patients, guests, and other health team members.
  • Make decisions of moderate difficulty that reflect both knowledge and good judgment.
  • Handle confidential information regarding patient activities.
  • Demonstrate an effective working knowledge of all equipment used in Cardiology and related to their job functions.
  • Participate in budget control.
  • Works extended hours as needed to include evenings and weekends.
  • Perform complete 2-dimensional, color flow, and Spectral Doppler exams according to protocol.
  • Notifies physicians of any positive findings that need attention prior to patient’s release.
  • Provides preliminary measurements and interpretations of examinations.
  • Performs necessary equipment checks and QC procedure and reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor. Maintains adequate supply of materials for vascular lab.
  • Assists in scheduling of patients. Works in additional patients. Makes scheduling aware of cancellations or optimize examination availability.
  • Reviews and revised lab protocol to maintain a high level of efficiency. Recommends change to supervisor.
  • Attends required staff meetings and correlations conferences.
  • Reviews performance and ensures compliance with accreditation, legal and other regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by direct report.
  • Serve as clinical resource role model for all staff/physicians.
  • Coordinate orientation for new staff/techs.
  • Assist in completing 90-day evaluations for new employees.
  • Coordinates daily assignments/procedures to ensure optimal operations.
  • Provide constructive feedback to staff related to job performance.
  • If requested, tabulate monthly statistics for area.
  • Manage projects and perform additional assignments as requested.
Qualifications of the Lead Vascular Technologist

EDUCATION:

  • Associate Degree or higher in related technological field.
  • Completion of an approved ultrasound technology education program or ARDMS recommended relevant work experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • One to three years of experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer
  • Proficiency in Venous Ablation and Sclerotherapy
  • Previous SDHC sonography experience preferred

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  • Credentials with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) in Vascular Ultrasound
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
