Integrity Analysis Engineer – Marathon Pipe Line

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Integrity Analysis Engineer position provides the opportunity to work within Marathon Pipe Line’s (MPL) Asset Integrity & Reliability Engineering department helping to lead efforts in managing day-to-day mechanical integrity issues, as well as investigating systemic integrity concerns associated with the in-line inspection (ILI) of MPL’s pipeline systems.The Integrity Analysis Engineer position is integral to a team that is responsible for ensuring that the execution of ILI and pipeline rehabilitation projects is performed in accordance with applicable regulations and MPL-specified processes. In addition to analyzing ILI tool data, it is vital for the Integrity Analysis Engineer role to have detailed knowledge regarding existing and emerging ILI related technologies as well as advanced analytics through SQL, Power BI, or other applications.

As a recognized leader in pipeline integrity, MPL is an active participant in several industry groups such as PRCI and API, with the Integrity Analysis Engineer often being a major contributor to studies for these groups. The Integrity Analysis Engineer also assesses ILI vendor performance and communicates the overall metrics associated with the management of pipeline integrity. The position is located in Findlay, OH and reports to the Integrity Analysis Supervisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and follow MPL's standards and guidelines that meet applicable regulatory and stakeholder requirements for anomaly investigation activities based on ILI vendor reports.
  • Develop, document, and maintain a working knowledge of integrity threats related to specific pipeline systems and assessment data to be used in the development of short term and long term pipeline system rehabilitation activities and plans.
  • Develop assessment program performance metrics that are pipeline system specific, vendor specific, technology specific, and process specific to drive continuous improvement and knowledge transfer.
  • Ensure regulatory and process compliance of pipeline integrity assessment and rehabilitation documentation for all MPL-operated systems.
  • Package and effectively communicate the results of the in-line assessment, rehabilitation process and joint industry projects.
  • Interface with program leaders, project leaders, region integrity engineers, region personnel and process department personnel to ensure that anomaly investigation activities are performed in accordance with applicable regulatory and industry codes/practices and company standards/processes.
  • Provide quality assurance and control of engineering calculations to ensure the proper maintenance of pipeline integrity. Review regulatory required documentation to ensure compliance and technical adequacy. Monitor developments within the ILI industry and participate in industry forums on new technologies and vendor performance.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of system-specific long term integrity plans required by the Integrity Management Rule (IMP). Assist in ensuring data associated with pipelines, appurtenances, and repairs installed on the pipeline are properly recorded and maintained.
  • Provide continuous improvement feedback and subject matter expertise for pipeline integrity processes.
  • Work closely with third party vendors on existing and emerging ILI technology developments

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required.The individual should be detail oriented, analytically minded and have interest in technical details as they pertain to pipeline integrity. Power BI, SQL, or other data management and reporting experience is preferred.
