UNIT SUMMARY: Behavioral Health and 4C provide general, acute care for inpatient adults who may be suffering for mental or behavioral health issues. The 4C unit has a capacity of 14 beds, while the BHU census capacity is 23 beds. Patients in these units may have be depressed, schizophrenic, or struggle with substance abuse or a mood disorder. In addition to the BHU and 4C, staff works in a 6-bed area of the ER, referred to as the Psych West Pod, which can house adults, adolescents or children. The majority of nursing staff in this area cross train to all three areas. Staff members in these areas must be positive and outgoing, and must utilize strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status.
JOB SUMMARY: Provides safe, age appropriate patient care for psychiatric patients, observing patients and assisting with activities of daily living while maintaining a safe and clean environment. Basic Nursing care and ADLs, observation and reporting documentation, and assisting with admissions, discharges and transfers as needed.
REQUIREMENTS: Entry level knowledge, basic employment skills, High School Diploma, GED equivalent or High School Certificate. 1-3 years of experience. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the Maryland Board of Nursing, American Heart Association CPR Certification.
