Job Summary of the Echo Technologist
Responsible for performing all assigned diagnostic ultrasound exams in a timely manner. Performs procedures according to physician’s orders or per prescription on outpatients. As a member of the care team, the Echo Technologist is responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure safe and accurate delivery of patient care. Assumes, under the direction of the Laboratory, responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.
Responsibilities of the Echo Technologist
- The Echo Technologist is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, diagnostic tests which include Adult Echocardiogram, TEE’s and Pharmacologic/Exercise Cardiac Stress Testing.
- Maintain professional standards and seeks professional growth.
- Employee conduct must reflect the company’s values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct.
- Employee reflects SDH Service Excellence standards in every interaction.
- Consistently produce scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric.
- Demonstrate knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
- Follow established scanning and filming protocols.
- Operate the Ultrasound units efficiently and effectively.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of the operating parameters of the scanner
- Document, on PACS or in writing, information seen during exam.
- Complete quality scans in a timely manner, effectively organize and prioritize workflow to meet STAT and urgent demands.
- Demonstrate proficiency in scanning trauma, acute & challenging patients; possess skill to modify positioning and scanning factors when standard cannot be performed.
- Relay to Cardiologist any relevant patient information.
- Possess knowledge of disease processes and images these findings adequately; communicate them to the Cardiologist.
- Assist physicians performing invasive exams.
- Perform procedures in OR.
- Coordinate procedures with other departments
- Understand the need of Cardiologist or performing physician during invasive procedures, and have good knowledge of biopsy and aspiration supplies including the charges.
- Demonstrate preparedness for patient arrest or critically ill patients.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform organizational and related duties in Ultrasound.
- Function independently and problem solve effectively, considering alternatives.
- Clean exam tables and restock Ultrasound supplies as needed or used.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications of the Echo Technologist
EDUCATION:
- Associate Degree in an Ultrasound Technology education program
- Completion of an accredited school of cardiac ultrasound
EXPERIENCE:
- One year minimum of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Current Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiovascular Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI):
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
