Job Summary and Qualifications
Performs CT procedures under the direction of a Radiologist and in accordance with the rules and regulations of the ARRT. Technologist may be asked to work a shift not normally worked to cover the needs of the Radiology Department. Follows Service Behaviors when interacting with patients & patient’s families, physicians and other hospital employees. Other duties may be assigned to meet the needs of the Imaging Services Department.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Performs all functions of the CT Technologist job role
· Responsible for educating and training staff technologists on existing and new procedures and/or processes.
· Responsible for building, revising, and implementing all CT protocols.
· Responsible for all quality control needs as determined by the Medical Imaging leadership team.
· Responsible for following all DHEC, TJC, ACR and any regulatory agency governing radiation safety.
· Assists in the departmental accreditation process as well as the on-site survey preparation for all regulatory agencies.
· Responsible for the overall departmental orientation process for new employees.
· Responsible for the independent operation of CT equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic CT examinations under the direction of a Radiologist and in accordance with the rules and regulations of the ARRT.
· Responsible for daily operations of the department, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). The technologist maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level or understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
· Reflects CMC’s Mission, Vision and Values by providing the highest quality service excellence to each patient encountered. Utilizes AIDET. As outlined in the 2x2s: Staff
introduced and explained the procedure/process. Is responsive to patient concerns/issues. Provides excellent care to achieve OTT goal.
· Proactively checks patients’ orders to ensure order accuracy. Calls Outpatients the day prior to their study to answer any questions they may have and to explain what the procedure entails.
· Identifies all patients by asking name and date of birth. Verifies order and diagnosis. Explains procedure to patient and answers any questions the patient may have. Selects correct patient and study to image. Completes Meditech and PACS in a timely manner.
· Performs CT procedures as outlined in the protocol book and under the direction of the Radiologist.
· Performs diagnostic CT procedures under the direction of a Radiologist and in accordance with the rules and regulations of the ARRT.
· Explains CT procedures to patients in a manner that they patient understands.
· May be cross-utilized into other modalities when needed.
· Uses contrast history form to assess all patients receiving IV contrast prior to administration.
· Utilizes patient safety devices to ensure maximum patient safety.
· Operates CT equipment, processes images and prepares room with the necessary equipment and supplies for the procedure.
· Assesses patient for contrast and medication allergies prior to contrast administration.
· Operation of i-Stat for pertinent evaluation of lab values prior to contrasted studies.
· Administers IV contrast and must be familiar with departmental policy on contrast reactions and infiltrations.
· Provides instructions to patients under Radiologist direction for withholding certain medications when IV contrast is given.
· Some clerical & transporting duties are included.
Position Requirements:
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
· ARRT (Registered Radiographer) is required
· State Registered Radiologic Technician and/or Computerized Tomography) is required
· American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and certification within two weeks of hire.
Education:
· Graduate of school of Radiologic Technology and certified by the ARRT
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years CT experience preferred
