Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Registered Nurse (RN) at Chippenham Hospital’s Level 1 Trauma Center in our Emergency Department, you will provide direct nursing care to patients in Richmond’s biggest and busiest Emergency Department. Our newly renovated and state of the art ER has 58 beds with a 40 bed Main ER, 12 bed Pediatric ER, and 6 bed Behavioral Health Intake and sees an average of 280 patients per day. As a member of our Emergency Team you will be working alongside the finest nurses, techs and leaders in the industry.

SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*

1. Accurately performs and documents initial and shift nursing assessments.*
2. Plans treatment in conjunction with other treatment team members. Initiates treatment plans at admission and assures timely review and revision.*
3. Provides direct physical patient care. Assumes responsibility for obtaining necessary staff education and demonstration of competency prior to performing tasks not routinely done.*
4. Provides behavioral health care interventions utilizing the least restrictive interventions.*
5. Administers medications using the 5 rights of medication administration and according to hospital policy. Maintains accurate medication administration documentation including accurate documentation and signatures on controlled substance forms. *
6. Provides and documents patient/family education and serves as facilitator for community meetings and educational/focus groups.*
7. Provides supervision and leadership. Acts as charge nurse as assigned. Identifies staff performance issues and discusses same with involved staff. Reports continued staff performance issues to supervisor in a timely manner.
8. Provides for the safety of patients, visitors and staff. Assures all routine and special safety checks are completed accurately.*
9. Actively participates in quality management activities including facilitating corrective action for operational, staff or quality concern situations requiring immediate attention and/or timely reporting of same.*
10. Assumes responsibility for completing all mandatory educational, health screening, CPR, CPI and RN licensure requirements within designated time frame and for providing written verification of same for filing.*
11. Uses the meditech order entry system for all functions utilized in Tucker Pavilion including, but not limited to, entering admission data, transfers, discharges, orders for diagnostic testing, accessing results of diagnostic testing and sending messages to other departments. Routinely accesses e-mail to read messages.*
12. Reports to work as pre-scheduled and on time.*

What qualifications you will need:
  • One year experience in Emergency services is preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Licensed a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia or has a Compact license.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date
  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date
