Responsibilities
Provides lactation care and instruction to breastfeeding mothers and infants. Serves as a lactation-related clinical resource, educator, and mentor.
- Performs initial and on-going assessments of patients' lactation goals and issues. Instructs and demonstrates proper techniques and promotes the importance of breastfeeding.
- Identifies the need for standard patient teaching plans and assists with their development.
- Acts as a liaison to staff and physicians when addressing needs associated with breastfeeding.
- Contributes to the development of data tools to monitor and improve outcomes.

- Serves as a consultant for staff in areas of program development, clinical practice and professional development. Serves as a resource person by responding to or seeking response to clinical questions or problems. All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- Certification specializing in Neonatal Resuscitation credentialed from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
- Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Nursing or current home state license for multi-state license recognition "Compact State" obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
- Registered Nurse obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
- Certification specializing in Lactation preferred.
Education:
- Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time of hire.
