Purpose: The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the biweekly Canadian payroll as well as Federal, State and Local tax compliance. This position also shares backup responsibility for the Company’s weekly/biweekly payroll.
Essential Duties:
- Processes biweekly Canadian payroll.
- Maintains and distributes all periodic payroll reports to meet business needs
- Maintains knowledge of rules and laws which govern the payroll administration practices. File taxes and/or amendments with federal, state, and local agencies timely and keeps management informed of any/all issues.
- Ensure local tax jurisdictions are set up correctly for each employee to avoid costly amendments with agencies and payroll vendor
- Works with accounting to ensure accurate general ledger entries and investigate discrepancies.
- Tabulate 401k funding and monitor contributions and loan deduction amounts to ensure plan compliance
- Participates in problem solving and special projects within the Payroll team.
- Primary back up coverage to all payroll positions.
- Maintain complete and accurate records

Work Experience
- 5 or more years of full-cycle payroll experience required
- 1-2 years of Canadian payroll administration preferred
- Experience with multiple tax jurisdictions preferred
Education, Certificates, Licenses, or Designations
- CPP certification required or the ability to obtain within a 12-month period
- Canada Payroll training preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Specific Skills
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Human Resources Information Systems
- Proficient in other Microsoft Office applications
Work Environment: While performing essential duties of this position an individual regularly works indoors, and may be required to sit for long periods. Individual will be required to regularly talk, hear, see and often reach with hands, stand, walk, use a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment.
