Overview:
The Pharmacy Validation Specialist is responsible for validating specific functions of other registered pharmacy technicians in filling floor stock and unit dose distribution systems for inpatients in a hospital. Working under general supervision, this role ensures that unit dose distribution systems have been accurately prepared to meet the pharmaceutical needs of the hospital and its patients. This job validates stocking of: patient care unit medication inventories; ancillary drug cabinet inventories; automated dispensing or drug supply devices; and hospital kits.
Responsibilities:
Validates numerous drug distribution systems to verify that medications from the pharmacy have been accurately distributed to the different hospital care units.
Understands how different drug distribution systems can be used to meet the needs of hospital care units while also recognizing the limitations of each.
Validates the filling of floor stock and unit dose distribution systems for compounded or admixed prescription drugs only after a pharmacist has verified that the drugs have been prepared correctly.
Identifies floor stock and unit dose distributions systems issues, recommending solutions and the required steps to Pharmacy Technicians.
Performs other Pharmacy Technician duties as required or assigned.

Required: Associate degree in pharmacy technology
EXPERIENCE:
Required: 2 years
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Pharmacy Technician certification through PTCB or NHA prior to hire. Registered with the NC Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of hire.
