Performs entry-level professional level analyses, testing of new products and requirements. Responsibilities may include providing formula feedback, performing short-term projects, and interpreting test results. The Associate Chemist is distinguished from the Chemist I by providing entry-level professional support, working with less complex projects, and understanding of fundamental product/chemistry knowledge. May supervise support level technicians on a day-to-day basis.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs analyses and development of new or updated testing that requires a basic professional understanding of chemistry, product lines, and materials.
  • Provides feedback, test results, and data regarding the weathering process and recommends modifications to testing.
  • Completes a variety of forms and documents detailing test findings and basic project results; requires independent judgment within professional guidelines.
  • Participates in Laboratory Accreditation audits from internal and external parties, able to write SOPs, Work Instructions and Corrective Actions.
  • Able to perform aspects of the laboratory function from maintaining intricate databases, exterior exposure, physical testing and specialized accredited testing for green building, State and Federal codes.
  • Provides excellent record keeping for laboratory purchases and billing following corporate policy.
  • Ensures compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Responds to standard to moderately complex questions and concerns from plants, research technicians, quality control, and other internal parties regarding development and related programs and services.
  • Operates, cleans, and calibrates a variety of equipment that requires professional judgment and background; also utilizes technical or standard equipment during the course of projects.
  • May eventually supervise or serve as a lead to lower-level technicians or support personnel performing research projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned; must be able to multi-task effectively and actively be able to work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Must be a team-player and able to work effectively with the group on projects; must have strong communication skills to work professionally with customers and internal staff.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
  • Understanding of fundamental professional chemistry principles and practices
  • Operating a variety of laboratory equipment
  • Ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Solving problems and recommending solutions
  • Prioritizing daily project tasks; maintaining organized records and work space
  • Working with a basic understanding of the commercialization process
  • Excellent PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applicable applications; able to build and maintain database
  • Communicating with co-workers to provide and receive direction.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience within a lab setting
