Job Summary and Qualifications
Seeking a Nurse Manager of Bariatric Services for Methodist Hospital – Specialty & Transplant who is responsible to the Vice President, Operations and/or the Chief Nursing Officer for planning, facilitating, coordinating and delegating the delivery of patient care to a defined group of patients served by the Bariatric Clinic. He/she models behavior consistent with the MHS Mission and Vision and effectively maintains the Hospital’s Standards of Care and Practice. What You Will Do In Your Role:
- Plans, organizes, facilitates and directs operations delivered in the clinic in accordance with recognized and accepted internal (e.g. unit, department, and hospital) and external regulatory (e.g. The Joint Commission, Medicare, OSHA) standards.
- Responsible for the development, implementation and compliance with applicable bariatric clinic policies and procedures.
- Develops and conducts quality improvement measures for the Bariatric Program to include indicators for the Medical Staff and multidisciplinary based committees.
- Administrates the MBS Committee and attends the required meetings outlined by the MBSAQIP.
- Assists in program development, manages the accreditation process, ensures continuous compliance with MBSAQIP standards, maintains relevant pathways and protocols, patient education, monitoring outcomes data and collection, quality improvement initiatives, and the education of relevant staff.
- Responsible for the development and utilization of appropriate forms for the documentation of care and services conducted in the Bariatric Clinic and supports the development of written protocols and education of nursing staff detailing the rapid communication and basic response to critical patient findings.
- Serves as the liaison between the facility and all metabolic and bariatric proceduralists at the center and any general surgeons providing call coverage. Assists in maintaining the documentation of the call schedule provided by all covering surgeons and ensures access of the call schedule to all departments of the facility.
- Ensures ongoing regulatory compliance with all accrediting agencies. Completes insurance surveys as required and submits timely.
- Integrates standards of care and collaborative care paths into unit operations that support the provision of services.
- Serves as the liaison between hospital and surgical practice/physicians to develop and maintain bariatric clinical protocols.
What qualifications you will need:
ONE of the following:
- A. Graduate of a nursing education program; associate degree, diploma or baccalaureate program.
* RNs hired as of 01/01/2013 that do not have a BSN upon hire must do ALL of the following:
1) Enroll in a BSN or higher degree nursing program within two years of hire date and submit documentation to facility CNO (or designated representative)
2) Complete the BSN or higher degree nursing program within five years of hire date
- B. Baccalaureate degree in Food and Nutrition or related field
- Two (2) years acute care RN experience
Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing on hire.
- Prior experience in a Bariatric Center of Excellence or in bariatric surgical patient management.
Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:
ONE of the following
A. RN License to practice as a professional registered nursing in the state of Texas
B. ALL of the following (if Dietician):
- Dietician License from the Texas Department of Health.
- Registered with the American Dietetic Association
Preferred:
- Certification in their specialty.
