Piedmont Newton Hospital leaders held a ribbon-cutting on Nov. 6.
Construction is complete on the upgraded 10- bed intensive care unit (ICU) at Piedmont Newton Hospital. The process is underway on Nov. 6 to relocate patients to the revitalized space. Notable improvements include:
Larger rooms that accommodate continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) for patients in kidney failure who need continuous dialysis. With more space, these patients can now remain here at Piedmont Newton for care.
New HVAC system to ensure comfortable temperatures for staff and patients
Convenient breakaway-style doors
Updated nursing station and flooring
Piedmont Newton leaders and ICU team members gathered to cut the ribbon and open the unit. In remarks, Chief Executive Officer Lindsey Petrini stressed the value to all patients and family members of the more modern and comfortable space to heal.

Targeted Temperature Management post-cardiac arrest
Invasive and Non-Invasive Hemodynamic Monitoring
Hemodialysis
Management of patients having or requiring:
Carotid Endarterectomies (CEA)
Sepsis and multi-system organ failure
Heart Failure Management
Pulmonary Hypertension
Ventilator management
Continuous bipap management
Post-surgical management
The critical care unit at Piedmont Newton uses:
Bedside report handoff at change of shift
Purposeful Rounding for safety and service
Quality initiatives such as pain assessment and reassessment, pressure ulcer prevention, infection prevention strategies for central lines and indwelling urinary catheters, etc.
Critical Care educator to help address competency, onboarding, and learning needs
Charge nurse out of staffing or with limited patient load to facilitate daily operations

Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Graduate of a nursing program
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
New Graduates of a nursing program eligible
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
BLS certification required.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
For PRN positions: One year of nursing experience in a hospital setting preferred
Bachelors degree preferred
Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable (see addendum)
