Duties and Responsibilities:
Thedutiesandresponsibilities listed below areintendedtodescribe the general nature of work andarenotintendedtobe an all-inclusive list.Other duties andresponsibilitiesmaybe assigned.
Prepares the EPLab for procedures, including settingup thesterileproceduretableandensuring all necessarysuppliesandapparel areavailable.Assists in cleanupandturnoverof room inpreparation for followingprocedure.Assists preparing patient forelectrophysiologyprocedures,including prepping accesssite(s)and properly draping patient in the fashionthatcorrespondstotheprocedure,whilemaintainingstandardsofsterility.Setsup,operates,andtroubleshootsandmaintainsElectrophysiologyequipment,ensuring their properfunctioningduringprocedures. Among the expected skills to perform these duties:
Hemodynamic monitoring
Scrubbing, prepping and draping for cardiac devices and ablations
Mapping system and ablation set up
Operating the recording system and stimulator
Baseline intracardiac measurements
Pacing from different catheters for the purpose of checking thresholds
Burst pacing for arrhythmia induction
Assessing for pulmonary vein isolation
Pacing for phrenic nerve capture
Assessing for bidirectional block across flutter lines
Pacing for the purpose of entrainment and measurement of post pacing intervals
Basics of assessing for dual AV nodal physiology and preexcitation
Measurement of QRS duration and left ventricular activation times for physiologic/conduction system pacing
Understanding of basics of pacemaker and ICD programmers
Assessment of lead parameters (sensing, impedance and threshold)
Accuratelydocumentsprocedurecharges, supply charges, fluoroscopytimeandradiation dose, and contrast dosage. Collaborates with the healthcareteamtomaintain a sterileenvironmentwithin the EPlab, adhering toinfection control protocols. Ensures properradiationsafetyprotocolsarefollowed,including use ofleadapronsandshieldingtominimizeradiationexposureto patients, staff,and oneself.Responsible for notifyingphysician ofelevatedradiation doses during procedures. Participates inqualityassuranceinitiativestoimprovetheefficiencyandsafetyofEPprocedures.Assists in managingsuppliesandequipment within theEPlab,ensuringall necessary items arereadilyavailable.Participates in theorientationand training ofnew staff members andcollaborateeffectivelywithcardiologists, nurses, andotherhealthcareprofessionals.Preparestorespondtoemergenciesandprovideimmediateassistance during complications oradverseevents, including cardiopulmonaryresuscitation(CPR), cardiac defibrillation,andartificial respiration.
Physical Requirements:
Abilitytoworkwithinthesemi-restrictedandrestrictedenvironmentof the OperatingRoomandotherPerioperativesupport areas. Stands underhotsurgical lights forprolonged periods oftime.Possibilityofmusclestrainfromliftingpatientsand heavy equipment,shocksandburnsfrom cautery unitsandautoclaves.Possibilityof cuts from sharp instruments. Frequent exposuretohazardouschemicals,bloodandbodilyfluids,extremenoiselevels, radiation, lasers, drasticfluctuations in ambienttemperature, etc. Abilitytowear a protectiveleadapronforextendedperiodsoftimeandexposuretoradioactivity,harmful anesthesiagasesandsepticinfections.Requiresfrequentliftingandpositioningofpatients, materials, equipment,powertools,instruments, etc. Frequent contactswith patients, physiciansandnursingstaff in Operating Room.
Skills& Abilities:
Willingnesstoparticipateinlate shift rotations asrequired.Abilitytoperformeffectively in high-pressure, fast-pacedenvironments.Attentiontodetail andunwaveringcommitmentto patient safety. KnowledgeofEP procedures, includingstructural heart procedures,andequipmentoperation strongly preferred.Exceptional interpersonal andcommunicationskills.
