We are looking for a highly motivated and professional individual with strong analytical skills that has a desire to join our Payroll team within the #Plains Human Resources department. We are keen to welcome this new member to our small but accountable payroll team.

This position, based in our downtown Calgary office and will be eligible to participate in our hybrid work environment.

You will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Process bi-weekly Canadian payroll reconciliation for 1200 employees - including preparing and auditing payroll reports, prepare net pay balancing, salary summary, benefit integrations and billing, issue vacation payouts, maternity leave top-ups, third party invoices coding, garnishment processing and payment, WCB top-up calculations and payments.

  • Process pays as per collective agreements.

  • Ensure compliance with internal payroll processes, Company policies, legislative requirements, and collective agreements.

  • Ensure accuracy in employee data & information and provide various payroll and/or benefit reports.

  • Process new hires, terminations and perform leave and disability calculations.

  • Troubleshoot payroll and time tracking issues and solve them in a timely manner.

  • Review time tracking in Workday to ensure exception pay is accurate.

  • Communicate information clearly and concisely to both internal and external partners, ensuring confidentiality.

  • Complete Record of Employment for terminated and on-leave employees when necessary.

  • Calculate and audit taxable benefits regarding group insurance, reward programs, personal use of company vehicle and any other taxable benefits.

  • Collaborate with HRIS regarding payroll testing and updates to the system.

  • Monthly, quarterly and annual payroll balancing, including WCB and EHT.

  • CRA remittances processing for payment, as well as CRA Statement of Accounts review and reconciliation.

  • Process Year-End activities ensuring accurate reconciliation and validation of T4’s, T4A’s and year-end reporting for government agencies.

  • Proactively identify process improvements and create or update process documentation.

  • Participate in ad-hoc payroll related projects

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Required:

  • 5-8 years of related payroll experience;

  • 1-2 years of Payroll and Time Tracking knowledge in Workday;

  • Excellent understanding of Canadian payroll legislations, practices and procedures;

  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office products;

  • Strong attention to detail with an internal drive for accuracy;

  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with emphasis on customer service excellence;

  • Ability to exercise discretion relating to confidential/sensitive information;

  • Proven communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other HR Team members and employees in other departments;

  • Capable of prioritizing multiple requests to ensure timely and accuracy in completion of required tasks;

  • Recognized ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment with proven flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing business conditions.

  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.

Assets:

  • Experience with full cycle payroll accounting, including exposure to joint ventures;

  • Experience with collective agreements;

  • Strong reporting and financial acumen;

  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) (completed or in progress).
