UNIT SUMMARY:The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is a fast-paced environment, where nurses are an active participant in patients' perioperative experience. In the PACU, pre-anesthesia screening services (PASS) include comprehensive preoperative anesthesia screenings, and preoperative prep for patients. PASS nurses also provide any necessary educational resources to patients and their family members and facilitate communication with the anesthesia and surgical teams. Peri-anesthesia nurses in the PACU provide care for a diverse population of patients and have experience dealing with different forms of trauma and multiple surgical specialties. It is imperative that staff members can think critically, and have strong assessment, intervention, and communication skills. In the PACU, teamwork and exceptional customer service are essential in achieving successful patient outcomes.
JOB SUMMARY: As a member of the patient care team, the RNprovides safe, age appropriate patient care and functions as an advisor and resource for patients and their families.
REQUIREMENTS: Formal working knowledge; equivalent to an Associate's degree (2 years college); requires knowledge of a specialized field. Associate's degree in Nursing (AA) or Diploma in Nursing. At least 1 – 3 years of RN experience within the PACU or Critical Care environment required. Maryland Registered Nurse License, American Heart Association BLS Certification, ACLS.
