Position Overview
The Director of Nursing is responsible for the leadership and management of the surgical orthopedic department at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital. Recognized as a professional role model who promotes an environment that supports the goals, mission, vision, philosophy and values of the Division of Nursing and MedStar Health. Facilitates the cost-effective utilization of available resources (human, material and financial) and ensures a high level of quality of care that is consistent with established standards of nursing practice for the patient populations served.
Unit Highlights
Our newly renovated unit has 30 all private rooms. The nurses here provide exceptional post-operative care in a fast-paced environment. Common surgical procedures include joint replacement, spinal surgery, reconstructive plastic surgery. We strive to provide safe, quality care by maintaining a patient-centered approach. As well as our patients, we benefit from a multi-disciplinary, collaborative team approach, including Nurses, Residents/Fellows, Advanced Practice Providers, Respiratory Therapy and Case Management.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the operational, personnel, and financial activities of the unit to ensure efficient and effective resource utilization.
Direct and coordinate the activities of professional and support personnel within the unit.
Collaborate with the nursing leadership team, Medical Staff, and leaders of other departments/disciplines to ensure seamless patient care.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and MedStar Health's mission, vision, and values.

Qualifications
·Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (Master’s preferred)
·DC RN License
·Minimum of five years of nursing experience
·Two years of nursing leadership experience preferred
·Strong interpersonal and communication skills
