Summary
JOB SUMMARY The PACU Registered Nurse (RN) is a member of the Nursing Dept. The PACU RN has responsibility and accountability for nursing care utilizing hospital policies, guidelines and ASPAN standards to provide care that is safety focused. The RN manages care for patients and their families through the perioperative service by application of the nursing process utilizing independent judgment, critical thinking skills, collaboration and communication with all team members involved in both pre-op and post op care including ancillary and support services, as well as, surgeons and anesthesia. The PACU RN develops a plan of care for each patient based on individual needs and continually monitors and assesses each patient as dictated by ASPAN standards of care. The PACU RN manages the progress of the patient from pre-op to the OR ensuring all standards, orders and measures are met. The PACU RN manages the post op care of the patient in both phase 1 and phase 2 PACU until discharge criteria are met and patient is transferred to next level of care or discharged. The RN evaluates patient response to treatment and nursing interventions, as needed, revises the plan of care. The PACU RN reports directly to the Clinical Manager of Surgical Services, or the Executive Director in his/her absence. The PACU RN ensures that all services are delivered in accordance with the mission statement and SPIRIT values of Carroll Hospital Center. REQUIREMENTS
