Position Description

Our current opening is for an Outpatient Physical Therapist Rehab Educator.

In consultation and collaboration with Rehab leadership and the inter-professional healthcare team, the Rehab Educator assesses, plans, develops, implements and coordinates learning activities to train, educate and develop Rehab staff. Functioning within the context of the framework of professional practice, the rehab educator is responsible for supporting organizational goals by ensuring role competence, best practice, and compliance with regulatory standards.

This is an experienced and advanced level position that provides clinical expertise to members of the department. This position will require 50% clinical responsibilities and 50% educational responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with Rehab Services Leaders including Director, Manager and Supervisor to assess the clinical competencies and learning needs of Rehab staff. Consults with clinical teams and with cross department leaders regarding educational opportunities.
  • Develops and coordinates competency-based Rehab Orientation program which includes specialty training and preceptorship
  • Facilitates clinical education of Rehab staff including orientation, specialty training, and preceptorship. Serves as an educational and subject matter expert for Rehab staff in order to drive professional development. Coaches and acts as a mentor.
  • Identifies training needs of Rehab staff and provides constructive feedback. Provides input to Managers regarding staff performance as related to clinical excellence and professional development.
  • Continuously researches and maintains awareness of clinical guidelines, best practices, and regulations. Identify and attend continuing education opportunities.
  • Updates all training programs, materials, and lessons as well as training practices, expectations, program criteria to remain consistent with all current clinical guidelines, best practices, and regulations.
  • Interprets policies and procedures developed by higher level managers or supervisors and assists with implementation of these practices.
  • Writes policies on standards for specialized care, using data from patients, clinical information, and relevant research in accordance with the educational needs of the rehab staff.
  • Maintains a system for tracking and accessing annual education requirements on request. Provides regular and ad hoc reporting, including reports needed for compliance purposes.
  • Supports quarterly chart audits in accordance with compliance requirements. Provides feedback and opportunities to staff to ensure all regulatory standards are met.
  • Updates and monitors the Central Education Portal.
  • May assist with the coordination of student placements, orienting students, and organizing preceptorships for undergraduate and graduate students

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or DPT from an accredited institution in Physical Therapy
  • Member of APTA
  • Current State of CT Physical Therapy license required
  • 5 years experience working in an Outpatient Rehab setting
  • Has had prior experience mentoring staff and/or students; previous experience as an educator preferred
  • Possesses good communication and interpersonalskills and the ability to effectively present and teach using various methods
  • Knowledge of theories, principals, and practices of professional role
