JOB SUMMARY:
The Human Resources (HR) Manager will partner with organizational leadership to help solve complex organizational challenges. The HR Manager will manage the HR department, overseeing hiring, retention, separations, employee records, and other administration functions. They will support employee training and development, ensure policies and procedures are followed and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Works with the HR Director and broader HR team to implement group initiatives across the organization.
• Supports plant management in assessing departmental needs and organizational planning and development, evaluating structure, job design and workforce forecasting throughout the company. Including facilitating the succession planning process.
• Plans, organizes, and controls all activities of the department. Participates in developing departmental goals, objectives and systems.
• Rewrites position descriptions as necessary; monitors performance evaluation/review processes and revises, as necessary.
• Develops, recommends, and implements personnel policies and procedures.
• Oversees labor contract negotiations and contract administration, including grievances and arbitrations where applicable.
• Maintains staffing levels consistent with plant objectives. Recruits, interviews, and selects employees to fill vacant positions.
• Plans and coordinates new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
• Trains managers and supervisors in conducting interviews and selection in compliance with company policies and procedures.
• With the support of the corporate payroll team oversees location employee payroll.
• Support employee benefit administration through plan education and communication, assist in employees in enrolling in benefits when needed.
• As part of the employee activities committee, plans and carries out employee relations functions to support employee engagement and appreciation efforts.
• In conjunction with corporate compensation team conducts wage and salary surveys within local labor markets to determine competitive rates and develops and implements salary administration plan.
• Assists with preparation of the budget for human resources operations and requests and approves purchases, including timely reconciliation of assigned company credit card.
• Compiles and analyzes a variety of data (turnover, absenteeism, etc.) and develops programs/practices to address areas of concern.
• Represents Company at personnel related hearings and investigations, including unemployment claims, workers’ compensation, EEO, labor arbitrations, etc.
• May contract with outside suppliers to provide employee services.
• In conjunction with departmental managers, develops and coordinates the company’s general training needs. Conducts training on company policy issues, employee development and other issues as they arise.
• Promotes employee relations by counseling employees and other managers on various employee relation issues.
• Ensures compliance in recordkeeping and reporting related to all areas of responsibility are consistent with all applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations (i.e. I-9s, workers’ compensation, safety, environmental, etc.).
• Maintains a positive work environment by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with customers, co-workers, clients, and supervisors.
• Manages direct reports through coaching and supporting their training, development, and productivity.
• Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Regular and reliable attendance.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree and 3 years direct HR Generalist experience or 7 years or more of progressive HR experience and a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Human Resources or Business Administration degree preferred.
• Ability to use various types of HR software.
• Good communications skills; verbal and written.
• Ability to interact well with people on all levels.
• Strong leadership skills to support and motivate staff.
• A solid understanding of the key principles of employment laws.
• Solid ethics and morals, sound judgement, ability to remain calm during difficult situations.
• PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP certification preferred.
• Union experience preferred.
• Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Frequent communication with others to exchange information.
• Frequent repetition of motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
• Frequent moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
• Occasional adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.
• Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Constant use of computer for prolonged periods.
• Constantly thinking and processing information.
• Constantly maintaining concentration and focus on tasks.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• General office environment.
• May require occasional exposure to production area with airborne particles, loud noises, and
extreme heat and cold. Personal protection equipment is required when entering manufacturing
plant.
• Occasional travel for training, job fairs, etc.
