Job Description:

Responsible for nursing support to all modalities of the Imaging Services Department. They provide patient care management including patient assessment, education, and follow-up. They also provide conscious sedation care, pharmacology, and manage supplies. This person scrubs in with the Radiologist and assists with basic interventional procedures. This person is accountable to function in the scope of nursing practice to provide safe, efficient, and therapeutically effective patient focused care.

About the Medical Imaging RN Role:

As a Registered Nurse in Medical Imaging, you will be responsible for preparing patients for a variety of imaging procedures across different body parts (excluding the heart). This position requires a commitment to high-quality care, utilizing evidence-based practices and collaborating closely with the healthcare team. You may also rotate through sedation areas and assist with emergency procedures as needed.

  • Schedule: Full time, 40 hours. Monday through Friday with start times between 6AM-8:30AM - 10 hour shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam.
  • Pre-Op and Post-Op care of patients for interventional procedure.
  • Assists Radiologist in basic interventional procedures.
  • Patient care management including conscious sedation, hemodynamic monitoring, patient care assessment, and ECG interpretation.
  • Completes room preparation and turnover for all interventional procedures.
  • May perform PICC line insertions and/or central line.
  • Successfully completes angio and interventional exams. Removes tunnel catheter.
  • Scrubs in and supports the Radiologist during procedures. Anticipates procedural needs and responds timely and efficiently.
  • Proficient in a broad spectrum of interventional procedures, including advanced procedures (ablation procedures, stents, thrombolectomy, trans-catheter occlusion, alcohol ablation).
  • Applies sutures and appropriately cares for wound.
  • Coordinates patient care with Radiologist, staff, and other areas as needed.
  • Thoroughly and accurately completes all required documentation, including time stamps and image storage.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current State RN license.

  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

    (Applicants must either have required additional certifications (e.g. ACLS, PALs, NRP) upon hire or must obtain them within a specified timeframe determined by service line and department guidelines.)

  • RNs with less than 12 months of working experience as an RN prior to joining Intermountain must obtain their BSN within five years of their start date.

  • RNs hired or promoted into this role need to have or obtain their BSN within three years of hire or promotion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Understanding of basic x-ray principles and practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
