Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Vice President of HR Client Services, the Director of Associate Relations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of associate relations across the enterprise. This position plays a key role in shaping workplace culture by creating a positive, equitable, and compliant work environment. The Director is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive associate relations strategy that supports the company’s business goals and ensures alignment with legal standards and best practices, including data-driven insights and metrics while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Collaborates cross-functionally with other HR teams including Talent Management, DEI, HR Business Partners, and HRIS.
Essential Functions:
• Building business leader effectiveness
o Providing ongoing education and advisement for leaders in areas related to associate relations that is designed to build enterprise-wide leader capabilities and enable better decision-making, conflict resolution, and performance management.
o Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, HR, and management on sensitive and/or escalated associate relations matters.
• Minimizing organizational, financial, and reputational risk
o Managing, resolving, and preventing associate relations issues in a structured and consistent manner to reduce financial and reputational risks that arise from lawsuits, charges, negative publicity, etc.
o Tracking trends in associate relations issues and partnering with other HR Stakeholders (i.e. DEI, Learning, Leave Team) to develop solutions to workplace issues
o Acts as a key point of contact between internal/external legal counsel and HR regarding any employment-related legal matters at all levels of sensitivity.
• Supporting an engaged and productive workforce
o Advocating for associates in their moments of need and coaching/guiding leaders through performance issues designed to enable associates to remain engaged and productive.
o Foster a culture of trust, respect, and accountability by promoting open communication channels, listening to concerns, and enhancing associate engagement initiatives.
• Creating operational efficiencies through standardization and best practices
o Continually improving operational processes and policies supported by tools, standards, and clear expectations.
o Utilizing data to drive the flow of work, key decisions, and improvement opportunities/priorities.
o Determining work prioritizations leveraged through standardized risk levels which influence response times, procedures, and parties that need notification (including Legal).
o Evolving the function toward greater self-service, and leadership empowerment, while protecting the organization and mitigating risk
• Team leadership and development
o Build strong, cohesive leadership teams and develop initiatives to assure retention of a highly competent and motivated workforce; develop talent at all levels to ensure succession, breadth, and depth.
o Act as a coaching resource for Associate Relations Managers, Specialists, members of the Leave team and HRBPs on HR policy and employment law
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in employee relations, labor relations, human resources, and/or employment law.
• 3+ years prior team leadership highly preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
• Demonstrated track record of managing complex employment issues in a multi-state business environment.
• Requires previous experience working with counsel as well as senior leaders in an organization.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Thorough understanding of HR and labor relations principles, practices, and procedures.
• Excellent management skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with associates, boards, officials, directors, and other stakeholders.
• Working understanding of statistical concepts and methods of data collection.
• Ability to compile, research, and analyze information.
• Ability to compose and present comprehensive reports.
• Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization’s hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
NOTE: AmeriHealth Caritas utilizes a hybrid work environment with associates working from home two days a week and in the office three days a week. The functions of this position will be performed onsite at our offices located at 3875 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, 19073
