JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The operations manager position manages local scheduling and real-time operations of non-revenue generating construction operations that include field personnel, purchasing, fabrication, and equipment which facilitates the maximization of resources (human and automated) to achieve customer satisfaction, productivity, schedule adherence and economic goals. This position has direct reports and is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating their activities.

  1. Oversees tool purchasing functions including repair/replacement and inventory of such.
  2. Oversees fabrication production and delivery, insuring productivity, efficiency, quality, cost, and delivery objectives are achieved.
  3. Develops and implements plans, procedures and standards to ensure maximum efficiency and operating results.
  4. Supervises and directs overall activities of departments assigned in order to achieve operations objectives.
  5. Reviews and analyzes costs and expenditures.
  6. Develops and maintains industry and supplier relationships.
  7. Coordinates and confers with others to resolve operations problems and difficulties.
  8. Stays abreast of market conditions, business trends, and industry developments.
  9. Maintains continuous lines of communication with Leadership Team.
  10. Performs additional assignments as required by the operating needs of the business units or as directed by the General Manager.
  11. Reviews ongoing performance results to targets. Takes corrective measures with authorization, escalate as needed.
  12. Participates in daily, weekly, monthly and annual planning process as appropriate.
  13. Performs all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective mariner in accordance with established company policies to achieve the overall objectives of this position.
  14. Maintains a favorable working relationship with all other company employees to foster aid promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate which will be conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity, and efficiency/effectiveness.
  15. Projects a favorable image of the company to promote its aims and objectives and foster and enhance public recognition and acceptance of all of its areas of endeavor.
  16. Keeps General Manager promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance and takes prompt corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action which may be taken.
  17. Performs all necessary supervisory functions to effectively and efficiently manage the personnel assigned.
  18. Maintains a qualified staff.
  19. Communicates areas of accountability and performance expected of personnel assigned
  20. Determines standards of performance as a basis to review progress of personnel assigned.
  21. Recommends salary adjustments. transfers, promotions and dismissals.
  22. Ensures proper training of personnel assigned.
  23. Fosters a cooperative and harmonious working climate conductive to maximize employee morale and productivity.
  24. Develops individuals for future advancement.
  25. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all field employees of the department and is responsible for leadership, performance management and hiring of the employees within its department.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary. There will be times when you will be required to work the yard/shop setting where you would need the ability to negotiate travel around heavy equipment, ladders, shelving, fabrication machinery, fork lifts, etc.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 5 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is primarily locally during the business day, although some out of the area travel and overnight may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in construction, operations management, business management or equivalent and 5-7 years’ previous operations management experience, including forecasting, scheduling and real-time operations management.
  2. Extensive experience in and advanced knowledge of the construction industry, specifically, HVAC and Plumbing.
  3. Experience supervising, coaching and developing staff.
  4. OSHA 30 Training.

Preferred Education & Experience

  1. Understanding of purchasing, fabrication, and shop processes/operations.
  2. Strong vendor/supplier knowledge and relationships.
  3. Strong negotiation skills.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Relevant training certifications in industry topics helpful.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background test.
