Maxar is looking to add a Data Scientist to our team to support a customer who has a fast-paced and exciting mission within the Intelligence Community. This position will support specialized communications programs and their associated infrastructure.

The Data Scientist will work independently and as part of a cross-functional team comprised of technical experts supporting an established and growing Intelligence Community (IC) mission. You will need to quickly understand complex technical concepts, make assessments, and articulate your recommendations to the customer. Previous experience working on-site to support the Department of Defense (DoD) and the IC is highly desirable.

Day-to-Day with your Colleagues:

This is an on-site position, reporting daily to work in Reston, VA. The Data Scientist will be asked to provide technical expertise to support a variety of tasks to include, but not limited to:

  • Support technology analysts in applying algorithms and state of the art analytics.
  • Find patterns and trends in big data sets to uncover insights.
  • Create algorithms and data models to forecast outcomes.
  • Use machine learning techniques to improve the quality of data.
  • Deploy big data tools such as Python, R, SAS, or SQL in data analysis.
  • Clean and process data and determine what questions to ask and how to answer them using data.
  • Build predictive models for theorizing and forecasting.
  • Develop or use data visualization methods to discover and expose relevant story hidden in big data sets.
  • Research and produce comprehensive technical information reports that highlight current and projected technological threats to both current and future functional capabilities, informing development, design, and implementation of new systems.
  • Communicate recommendations to other teams and senior staff.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have active TS/SCI security clearance and be willing and able to obtain CI Polygraph.
  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, statistics, or other relevant technical area.
  • 5 years of professional experience in data analysis, data engineering, business intelligence analysis, or statistics experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced degree in a technical discipline such as in Computer Science, Computational Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, or Data Science.
  • Experience working on-site at a customer location.
  • Experience working in DOD / IC.
  • Ability to use analytic tools to rapidly assimilate big data sets.
  • Ability to analyze and draw conclusions from data.
  • Experience supporting teams in reaching their goals.
  • Proficiency in statistics, machine learning, and computer science.
  • Ability to clean and process data.
  • Ability to apply data visualization tools and outcome.
  • Building predictive models.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation abilities. Ability to communicate highly technical analyses at a level comprehensible to laymen and senior-level government representatives
  • Experience with the following:
    • Analytic Applications: Jupyter Notebooks, DataBricks, Tableau
    • Languages: Python, SQL, R, Lucene, Pig
    • Libraries: pandas, numpy, sci-kit learn, scipy
    • Indexing Schemes: GeoMesa, GeoWave, Amazon Redshift
    • Platforms: AWS, C2S, Apache Spark
    • Data Stores: S3, Elastic, PostgreSQL/PostGIS

The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.

The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $131,000.00 - $219,000.00 annually.

For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.

Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
