Mechanical Engineer – Cryogenic Systems
Maybell Quantum is growing quickly, and we are expanding our team! If joining an outstanding team at one of the most exciting companies in quantum computing sounds interesting, then Maybell may be the place for you.
Maybell is a venture-backed startup of scientists, engineers, visionaries, and innovators designing and building the hardware that makes quantum science possible.
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Cryogenic Systems to assist with the design, fabrication, and testing of components critical to our next-generation quantum cooling systems. This role is ideal for someone with broad mechanical engineering skills, experience in heat transfer (preferably at cryogenic temperatures), and a passion for hands-on problem-solving in dynamic, collaborative environments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and Fabrication: Contribute to the design, prototyping, and testing of mechanical systems and components for cryogenic and thermal applications.
- Mechanical Integration: Support sensitivity analyses, risk assessments, and mechanical integration of cryogenic systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Auxiliary Systems Development: Work on auxiliary components such as quick-disconnect systems, flow control devices, and other critical subsystems.
- Heat Transfer Analysis: Apply heat transfer principles to the design and optimization of cryogenic systems, ensuring thermal performance meets system requirements.
- Prototyping and Testing: Develop and validate mechanical prototypes, ensuring designs meet performance and reliability standards.
- Collaboration: Collaborate closely with specialized engineers across disciplines to support system-wide mechanical solutions and integration efforts.
- Adaptability: Take on varied tasks as needed to support the evolving needs of the team and project.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably with a focus on thermal or cryogenic systems.
- Proficiency in CAD modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and general-purpose engineering software.
- Broad mechanical engineering skills, with experience in design, fabrication, and testing of prototypes.
- Strong understanding of heat transfer principles, with experience designing and optimizing systems for thermal performance (cryogenic experience preferred).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to conduct risk assessments and support sensitivity analyses.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and take on diverse responsibilities.
Don't Meet Every Single Requirement
Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single desired qualification. We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway.
Compensation
Base Salary: $90,000/yr - $120,000/yr depending on experience and qualifications, with additional compensation in equity and bonus.
