Job Summary and Qualifications

Responsible for facilitating performance improvement activities for the Cardiovascular Service Line including General Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Interventional Cardiology, and Electrophysiology with the goal of improving patient outcomes and enhancing quality care through strategy development, process change, and education while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

Successfully engages with external hospitals and free-standing emergency departments. Functions internally across disciplines and departments to continually improve processes associated with creating an optimal care experience and outcome for the cardiovascular patient.
In order to be an effective influencer and change agent, exhibits expertise within the cardiovascular service line as follows:

  • Nursing
  • Hospital services provided to the adult population at all levels of care (outpatient, observation, and inpatient)
  • Regulatory requirements for accreditation and certification
  • Performance metrics within required registries, HCA and national benchmarks
  • Performance improvement tools
Supports organization’s overarching quality, patient safety, and infection prevention priorities within the CV patient population.
Analytically driven in making recommendations for initiating and prioritizing CV PI initiatives based on data available from multiple sources. Initiates data collection and observation as needed to evaluate processes. Understands data trends and variations. Works with healthcare team providers in development of evidence-based protocols to reduce mortality and co-morbid conditions.
Collaborates with Quality staff who manage CV registries. Promotes documentation that reflects true patient acuity and comprehensive plan of care. Works with all members of the CV healthcare team to understand rationale and support well-organized participation with CDRA and registries. Focuses on process improvements that reflect positively on registry measures.
Functions in an organized and time conscious manner. Provides reliable data, retrospective and concurrent data reports on outcome performance in order to celebrate success and initiate change.
Functions as medical staff quality support staff member facilitating CV service line peer review in compliance with medical staff bylaws, rules & regulations, and organizational manual. Coordinates completion of Focused Professional Practice Evaluation for new CV providers and/or new privileges granted to CV providers.
Follows high-risk CV patients with greatest potential of negative outcomes, being an outlier in comparison to ACC, STS, and TVT standards, or readmission. Works with multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and case review in a manner to identify any opportunities.
Serves as CJW CV quality representative for local and state collaborative partnerships, including, but not limited to, ODEMSA, VCSQI and VHAC. Leverages best practices from collaborative work. Provides presentation of CV quality metrics and PI efforts to facility and division leadership as requested and in structured meetings.
What qualifications you will need:

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. BSN Required, MSN preferred.
Current Registered Nurse License in Virginia or Current Multistate Compact License.
Required: 5 years clinical experience in a hospital setting; 2 years in a leadership or quality position
