Teaches and evaluates educational programs designed to meet the assessed needs of MedStar in a continuing effort to ensure quality care and maintain current standards of practice. Serves as an educator, resource, and consultant.
Education- Childbirth Educator certification required or
- qualification to teach specialty topics obtained through extensive clinical experience and training required and
- Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience- 1-2 years Teaching experience; clinical experience in labor and delivery or related experience required and
- Lactation instructional experience preferred and
Licenses and Certifications- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Valid RN license in the State of Maryland preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Excellent communication and presentation skills as related to community events.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
Adheres to MedStar curriculum as developed for childbirth and other classes.Assists program coordinator/manager to plan, oversee, and evaluate orientees and childbirth educator trainees. Submits evaluations to Program Coordinator within one week of completion of series.Contacts appropriate resource (Community Health Education or Telehealth Center) for rosters of class or tour participants prior to class.Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Cooperates with and participates in the peer review and evaluation program.Determines major competencies for class participants; interprets target population's needs; designs learning environment incorporating an audiovisual media mix to maximize the learning opportunities for class participants.Educates others about Women's Services products and providers and directs volume into the MedStar business units.Enhances growth and development and enriches personal knowledge and skill through participation in educational programs and affiliations. Utilizes established research process and incorporates results into practice. Maintains certification.Follows up with class participants in the event of absence. Works with class participants to make up missed classes.Gives tours of labor/delivery and postpartum units, antenatal testing, nursery etc. as part of childbirth class series.Maintains department records, reports, and files as required. Sends evaluations to program coordinator/manager within one week of class completion.Participates in meetings.Teaches scheduled classes, and evaluates as necessary, and maintains current, accurate records of attendance and participation in educational programs.May develop and coordinate linkages with other health care organizations, community agencies, support groups, and providers to meet health care needs of the community.May participate in formulating short and long-term plans for current and future educational programs.
