Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care (PVESC) is a 26-doctor practice offering advanced emergency and specialty care, including surgery, internal medicine, oncology, dermatology, neurology, emergency & critical care, and cardiology. The Role:
The Veterinary Technician Emergency Lead is responsible for overseeing the client experience and collaborating with referring veterinarians and the emergency team to ensure efficient patient care. This position focuses on managing client communications within the emergency department, requiring clear, organized, and compassionate communication both verbally and in written form. The Veterinary Technician Emergency Lead serves as a key leadership figure in the department, working closely with staff and clients to foster a positive and respectful environment. The role is dynamic, requiring flexibility and the ability to support various areas of the department as needed.
Schedule:
We are currently hiring for second shift, working 4 10-hour daysfrom 2 PM - 12 AM.
Requirements
- CVT/LVT/RVT Licensure Required
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong ability to mediate and collaborate with team members in a respectful, helpful manner
- In-depth knowledge of hospital equipment and software (ezyvet)
- Strong leadership abilities, with a focus on delegating tasks and directing staff effectively
- Ability to work independently with attention to detail while overseeing treatment area flow
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily controlled drug checks within ezyvet
- Serve as the point person for staffing, including scheduling and shift updates
- Ensure end-of-shift tasks are completed before staff dismissal
- Coordinate daily staff assignments and duties
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement efforts
- Train and orient new hires or team members joining the emergency department
- Meet monthly with the management team to discuss performance and areas for improvement
- Meet monthly with ER leadership to review department operations
- Monitor patient care closely, acting as an advocate for patients
- Ensure exceptional client relations by overseeing staff training and performance
- Uphold hospital policies and procedures
- Facilitate ongoing learning and development at all skill levels within the department
