Job Summary and Qualifications

Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care for the department -specific patient population in accordance with the standards of nursing care and practice as defined by Wesley Medical Center and the Kansas Nurse Practice Act. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Supports the organization vision and mission. Utilizes knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity in the provision of patient care. Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.

What qualifications you will need:

Required Registration, Licensure or Certification

    • Open to experience and training for the right fit!
    • Current Licensure in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Current Multi-State Licensure as a Registered Nurse
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) verification course through American Heart Assoc. “ACLS Provider” or American Red Cross within 90 days
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS) verification course through American Heart Assoc. “ACLS Provider” or American Red Cross within 90 days

    Preferred Registration, Licensure or Certification

    • Vascular Access Board Certification
    • Successful completion of Dysrhythmia Exam within allotted timeframe

    Required Education or Experience

    • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing

    Required Knowledge and Skills

    • Ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including, but not limited to, administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers and providing education to patients and/or significant others
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
    • Possess personal computer skills
    • Ability to multi-task, delegate and prioritize
    • Possess problem solving and critical thinking skills
    • Ability to collaborate with other health care providers
    • Ability to educate patients and/or significant others
    • Follows and maintains current evidence based and research driven nursing practices and quality measures including but not limited to:
    • VAP prevention and implementation of VAP bundle
    • Skin& Wound Care including prevention of pressure wounds
    • Meeting & Exceeding Core Measures as determined by National Standards
    • Proactive care to reduce Catheter Acquired UTIs
    • Protecting patient safety and being cognizant of Fall Risk and interventions to prevent falls
    • Utilizing restraints safely as per hospital policy
    • Display competence in the following (may be unit specific - training provided during orientation):
    • Interpreting EKG rhythms
    • Vasoactive and Cardiac IV medications
    • Ventilator management
    • MediTech documentation including visual flow sheet
    • Arterial and Venous blood draws
    • Obtainingng12-lead EKGs
