A Brief OverviewProfessional nurse whose primary focus is to provide assistance (physical and psychological support) to breastfeeding mothers and infants. The Lactation Consultant provides a variety of specialized services, including individual consultations for unusual breastfeeding situations, develop care plans in collaboration with other health care providers, teach breastfeeding classes, and instructions in the use of specific breastfeeding assistive devices. This position also serves as a resource for information and data, develop special programs or projects related to breastfeeding, provide continuing education programs for health care providers, and conduct research.
What you will do
- Provides individual and group lactation support services, including prenatal lactation education, in-hospital lactation visits, postpartum home visits, and follow-up phone and email support.
- Assesses and documents maternal and infant health and breastfeeding goals.
- Provides breastfeeding education and counseling to healthcare providers, families, and the community.
- Identifies and refers clients to appropriate community resources.
- Develops and teaches breastfeeding classes and workshops.
- Develops and maintains breastfeeding practices.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Registered Nurse (RN) - Board of Nursing An active license in the state of practice Upon Hire
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) - International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) within 1 Year
