Job Summary and Qualifications

The imaging Department special procedures nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act. Utilizes therapeutic communication in daily practice. Maintains a safe therapeutic environment. Identifies. Nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient. Plans individualized patient care utilizing an interdisciplinary approach. Participates in performance improvement activities. Provides care and coordinates participation that fosters the goals of the hospital’s mission and vision statement. Imaging Department special procedures nurse is responsible for day-to-day activities to ensure the delivery of quality patient care in a therapeutic environment. Make staff assignments based on patient need and the skill of the staff. Serve as a role model and clinical resource for the staff. Respond in a timely manner to requests for information or follow-up with physician, staff or patient issues.

What you will do in this role:

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the Competency Validation Checklist(s)
  • Meets mutually agreed upon performance goals/as listed on the Performance Management Plan
  • Demonstrates age specific knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment and care of patients.
  • Ensures the privacy of our patient and confidentially of their Protected Health Information (PHI)
  • Utilizes nursing process for individual care to meet needs of patients
  • Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills and procedures
  • Documents all patient care

  • Complies with hospital policies/procedures and patient safety initiatives
  • Demonstrates/completes position responsibilities by following established guidelines & protocols within the appropriate time frame
  • Administers medications as ordered and directed by the physician.
  • Maintains all crash carts within the Medical Imaging Department
  • Inserts Foley catheters as needed. Monitors and assesses patient’s vital signs. Thoroughly documents all aspects of nursing care.
  • Performs venipuncture as necessary
  • Interacts with patient and family to answer questions concerning patient care. Calls patient prior to appointment to fully explain and prepare the patient for the procedure. Provide education regarding radiographic procedures and post-procedure outcomes
  • Appropriately documents pain assessment
  • Demonstrates competency in observing and documenting patients under sedation. Completes nursing assessment in meditech.
  • Maintains documented competency in BLS, PALS, and ACLS as per American Heart Associations
  • Ensure Pyxis machines have had narcotic count done daily and that all discrepancies will be resolved before ending shift
  • Demonstrates appropriate equipment disinfection between patients
  • Demonstrates knowledge of emergency response, reactions to contrast, and cardiac/respiratory arrest.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
  • Current TX RN licensure (or eligible for NCLEX)
  • BCLS required
  • ACLS required
  • PALS required
