About You:

We strongly believe that veterinary medicine is a team sport, and our ideal candidate is someone who feels the same. Communication is key in our industry, and we are looking for people who navigate both client and interpersonal communication with skill and ease.

The ideal candidate will be a self-started and can work independently, have a genuine love for animals, a strong work ethic, and the ability to provide high-quality care in a fast-paced environment. As a Kennel Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring the well-being of the animals in our care, maintaining cleanliness at Middletown Animal Control Shelter, and assisting with daily operations, such as cleaning, feeding, and walking the animals. Prior animal handling experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a comfortable and sanitary environment for all patients.
  • Responsible for care of shelter animals including keeping all wards and kennels properly cleaned and disinfected, exercising, feeding, laundry.
  • General cleaning of public and employee areas and building and yard maintenance to maintain clean, odor-free, and attractive environment. Housekeeping and laundry duties for all areas.
  • Properly maintain equipment according to maintenance schedule.
  • Observe patients while on site for signs of illness, parasites and disease control, assessment of change in patient status.
  • Report any abnormalities or concerns to the ACO officer in charge and hospital manager.
  • Under direction of veterinarian and ACO officers, administer oral medications.

Anticipated Schedule:

This is a part-time position with an alternating schedule of 4 and 3 days weekly:
Week 1: Saturday, Sunday and 2 Weekdays – 7am – 9am AND 4pm – 6pm (Each day is a total of 4 hours)

Week 2: 3 Weekdays – 7am – 9am AND 4pm – 6pm (Each day is a total of 4 hours)

Compensation:

$16.50 an hour

Requirements
  • A genuine love for animals and the ability to care for them professionally and compassionately.
  • Experience with animals is preferred.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and be on your feet for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions.
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.
