Who we’re looking for.

Toyota’s Production Engineering (PE)-Battery Manufacturing Engineering (BME) Battery Cell Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineering Manager to join our Ryohin Joken (Conditions for Good Process and Product) advancement and problem-solving group.

Reporting to Senior Engineering Manager the person in this role will support the PE-BME Battery Cell Department's mission to deliver engineering solutions for rapid competitiveness improvements through safety first, people development, and customer focus.

The primary responsibility of this role is leading engineering team development & application of Ryohin Joken knowledge and skill through planning and problem-solving efforts in pre-production trial activity. With focus on establishing systems and procedures for efficient and effective issue identification, root cause analysis, issue resolution, and reoccurrence prevention / kaizen to subsequent activity and projects.

This role will also contribute to the success of Battery PE by responsibility in Hoshin initiatives, developing organization’s capabilities, and building strong relationships with peers & stakeholders.

As future development, this position has potential to rotate into role of managing team for process equipment production preparation management including specification, procurement, installation, and trial activity.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead PE Battery Cell Ryohin Joken (Conditions for Good Process and Product) Advancement & Problem-Solving team.

  • Lead establishment of team’s activity strategy, KPI, and working plan for focus initiatives.

  • Lead establishment of systems and procedure for problem solving & learning capture.

  • Lead team priority setting, activity management, status visualization/reporting, and incremental reflection.

  • Identify and develop internal & external partner relationships aligning to team objectives, development, and support.

  • Engage and resolve technical and organizational issues both internal and external.

  • Support PE Battery Department-level Hoshin activity for organizational advancement.

  • Lead Daily Job Management to support standardization & kaizen of systems and process.

  • Support team training and development activity, provide individual feedback, and monitor progress.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or similar technical field or 10+ years of equivalent Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience in a manufacturing production preparation role and schedule/deliverable management including stages of project plan, process/equipment plan, specification & procurement, installation and trial

  • Experience in a leadership role with responsibility for direct reports or as a Toyota sub-lead role for team members, engineers, technicians, machine builders, and/or overseas support personnel

  • Experience in battery cell product, processes/equipment, and/or trial activity

  • Experience in activity of Ryohin Joken (Conditions for Good Process and Product) identification, application, and/or confirmation

  • Experience coordinating with varied functions in large corporate organization, including production engineering, manufacturing, research & development, or similar, and reporting out to executive level

  • Documented problem-solving certification or activity such as Toyota Business Practice (TBP), Fault Tree Analysis, or similar

  • Ability for weekend and shutdown work, overtime up to 25%, and travel (domestic and international) up to 25%

Added bonus if you have

  • Experience in application of Toyota Production System (TPS) in a manufacturing shop floor environment

  • Experience in product x process/equipment simultaneous engineering for new model

  • Experience in manufacturing plant production operations role

  • Experience in data analytics tools and methods such as Power BI, Tableu or similar

  • Experience in digital engineering software tools such as CATIA, PTC or similar, including the ability to read, interpret and modify model data

  • Japanese language proficiency including verbal and written
