Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Production Engineering Battery department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Production Engineer to work in the Quality Control Equipment Group.

The primary responsibility of this position is to create specifications, procure, lead install, commission, and handover finalized equipment to the QC group at TBMNC manufacturing. You will also be researching / coordinating QC laboratory layouts that maximize space efficiency. Future roles within the QC group will require an open mind and desire to learn, as the QC engineers become subject matter experts in the QC realm related to analysis equipment fundamentals and application.

This position will be located at TBMNC in Liberty, NC and report to the Engineering Manager for TMNA PE QC group.

What you’ll be doing

  • Grasping needs / developing QC test equipment plans in partnership with TBMNC QC

  • Leading in the cost planning, budget creation, layout, machine specification, procurement, validation, installation, trials, and production use of assigned QC laboratory equipment

  • Creating and maintaining a detailed schedule and budget for assigned equipment

  • Engaging in construction related activity (building, utility specification) to support successful laboratory equipment installation

  • Participate in mentorship programs and development opportunities virtually, locally, and regionally to develop Toyota Business Practice Fundamentals such as TPS, Problem Solving, etc.

  • Utilizing knowledge and skills acquired to establish new equipment and installation standards, and kaizen existing standards

  • Utilizing knowledge and skills acquired to learn details of analysis methods including analytical equipment and methods

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or similar technical field

  • 1+ year of experience in creating schedules for multiple activities, and utilizing schedules to lead activity completion

  • 1 year of experience in execution of capital projects over $250k, preferably from initial planning to start of production

  • Ability to work weekends and on holidays (such as July and December holidays) as needed

  • Ability to work overtime as needed (approximately 30%)

  • Ability for business travel, both domestic and international, up to 25%

  • Ability for business travel to other North American sites to support future projects

Added bonus if you have

  • Toyota Co-op experience

  • Co-op / Internship experience in an engineering role

  • Experience in a production or laboratory environment

  • AutoCad basic knowledge, including the ability to read, interpret and modify 2D drawings

  • Budget experience, using for manufacturing projects or other related projects (applicable co-op experience included)

  • Advanced degree or experience in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering / Technology

  • Experience working in a team environment, collaborating to achieve goals and solve problems
