Job Profile Summary

The Outpatient Oncology Float RN is a professional registered nurse with oncology-specific clinical knowledge who serves as a resource for the entire oncology service line. The roles include (but not limited) for coverage of the Oncology Infusion Clinic, Radiation therapy practice and the Navigator RN positions.

The Oncology Service Line Float RN functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team and serves as an advocate, educator, coordinator and treatment provider to our patient population.

Hours: 32 hours/week, Day shift

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

  • BSN, BLS, Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certified

  • OCNCertification

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Educate the patient and family in relation to the diagnosis, treatment and related therapies. This to include the education as related to the home care needs following treatment.

  • Assessment of the patient complex needs and condition utilizing critical thinking skill in the assessment, development of a plan of care, documentation and implementation of this plan.

  • Treatment; is able to safely administer treatments as prescribed for the patient and in accordance with hospital policy.

  • Triage the patient during therapy and in the continuum of the course of treatment. The nurse is able to triage the full needs of the patient, involve the appropriate level of care/practitioner to address the issue.

  • Manage side effects- is able to provide the care to the patient in the management of the side effects of treatment in assessment, plan for care, delivery of care, education and follow up to the plan.

  • Navigate- the nurse should work collaboratively within the team to assure the care of the patient is coordinated and to prevent/minimize delays in care.

  • Manage nursing communication pool with proper phone triage to appropriate clinical provider

  • Coordinate the re-fill of medication for patients within the practice

  • Demonstrates use of clinical skills and expertise in the area of Oncology and Infusion.

  • Demonstrates ability to collect, track and trend data in order to identify opportunities for performance improvement.

  • Completes required performance appraisal on time based on hospital job description.

  • Cover Pain clinic intake, procedure and/or recovery
