Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care (PVESC) is a 26-doctor practice offering advanced emergency and specialty care, including surgery, internal medicine, oncology, dermatology, neurology, emergency & critical care, and cardiology. Our facility features state-of-the-art equipment, including a CT machine, MRI, digital radiology, three surgical suites, IDEXX in-house labs, ultrasound, endoscopy, pulse-wave therapy, and advanced monitoring equipment.

The Role:

The Veterinary Technician Emergency Lead plays a vital role in ensuring exceptional nursing care and the overall efficiency of the emergency department. This position is focused on providing top-tier patient care, supporting the team in all aspects of emergency medicine, and fostering a collaborative, high-quality work environment.

Schedule:

Wednesday-Saturday 2 pm-12am

Requirements
  • CVT/LVT/RVT Licensure Required
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong ability to mediate and collaborate with team members in a respectful, helpful manner
  • In-depth knowledge of hospital equipment and software (ezyvet)
  • Strong leadership abilities, with a focus on delegating tasks and directing staff effectively
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail while overseeing treatment area flow

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality patient care, including triage, diagnostics, and treatments.
  • Assist in all areas of the ER, ensuring seamless workflow and patient support.
  • Mentor and coachteam members to foster skill development.
  • Coordinate daily staff assignments and dutiesto maintain efficiency.
  • Monitor patient care closely, acting as an advocate for patientsand ensuring proper treatment.
  • Ensure end-of-shift tasks are completedbefore staff dismissal.
  • Serve as a point person for staffing, including scheduling and shift updates.
  • Conduct daily controlled drug checkswithin ezyVet.
  • Train and orient new hiresjoining the emergency department.
  • Participate in team meetings and ongoing learning initiativesto enhance department performance.
  • Meet monthly with ER leadershipto review department operations and improvement areas.
  • Uphold hospital policies and procedureswhile maintaining a positive and respectful team environment.
