Overview:

The Mechanical Design Engineer Role at Thompson Pipe Group will work to design, develop, and improve new & existing equipment, machinery as well as provide general engineering support where needed throughout Thompson Pipe Group.

Essential Functions:

  • Design products such as Precast Forms, Facility Equipment, & Automation Improvements.
  • Works with team to create accurate design sketches, layouts, & plans.
  • Uses computer-assisted design (CAD) software to create preliminary & detailed drawings of the product.
  • Produces specifications for products & chooses raw materials & components to be used in production.
  • Builds models & prototypes of the product & tests designs where needed.
  • Study & Analyze test data against proven product with similar designs.
  • Provide additional engineering / technical support where needed.

Requirements:

  • Analytical & problem-solving skills.
  • Mechanical & technical skills.
  • Proficient with CAD software. (Solidworks & AutoCAD)
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills & attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five years of related experience preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move products and supplies, up to 40 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. OT will be required as needed.

Travel:

  • Some travel may be expected with this position
