RN Neuro ICU
Provides direct patient care to critically ill adult patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.
Reports to: Director of Neuro Critical
FLSA: Non-exempt
Education: Associate’s Degree Nursing (ADN): Required and validated by the presence of a current RN License; Bachelor’s Degree Nursing (BSN): Preferred
License: Current Registered Nurse to practice work in the state of Kentucky or a current compact multistate license.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year of hire
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year of hire; Handle with Care to be received within 30 days of orientation and kept annually.
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Essential Functions
Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
Documents patient care given.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Floats to other departments as needed to maintain safe nurse-to-patient ratios.
Able to manage ventilators, cpap/bipap, vapotherms.
Able to titrate and maintain critical drips on the ICU patient, including knowledge of indications, contraindications, and side effects.
Must pass a rhythm recognition test within 90 days of hire/transfer.
