MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Employee demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit as indicated by the following:
• Demonstrates ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
• Demonstrates age appropriate communication skills.
• Demonstrates ability to provide the care needed as described in the job description and the department's scope of service for the patient groups under his/her care.
2. Daily post-operative rounding and follow-up with the urology department’s patients. PA will monitor the patients’ progress and provide any care or assistance as needed, or discussed by the attending physicians, e.g., H&P exams, foley catheter insertion, foley catheter irrigation, drain removal to provide the patients’ comfort and recovery. Consult with both the attending surgeon and staff providing services to the patients.
3. Is responsible for admission history and physical exams as needed, daily progress notes, daily orders and discharge summaries as requested by attending.
4. Evaluates urology patients in the emergency room and surgical floor consults.
5. Communicates with other departments and physicians concerning the patients’ treatment (e.g., primary care physician, case management, and social work).
6. Implements patient teaching and record all pertinent and accurate information on appropriate medical records and reports.
7. Maintains adequate level of specialty supplies.
8. Performs all other duties as required or assigned to assure patient needs are met.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor’s Degree required with Master’s Degree preferred in Physician Assistant Studies.
2. Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
3. Must be board certified by NCCPA with satisfactory completion of the national exam and maintain a minimum CME.
4. Previous experience as an Inpatient Physician Assistant, Acute Care NP/RNFA preferred. Urology experience preferred. First Assist Experience preferred.
5. Master’s or Doctoral Degree for Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with additional RNFA certification.
6. Must be board certified by either ANCC or AANPCB with satisfactory completion of national exam maintain a minimum CME.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
1. Current license as a Physician Assistant in the state of Maryland or Current license as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the state of Maryland.
2. Eligible to obtain the Maryland DEA license.
3. Current certification by NCCPA or Current certification by ANCC or AANPCB.
4. Current CPR certification.
