The caregivers in Mercy Hospital's Medical/Surgical Unit lead with purpose, utilizing their skills to enhance the Cleveland Clinic experience and create a healing and supportive for patients. As RN on this team, you will help facilitate this mission by providing direct patient care, coordinating discharges, communicating with family members and fulfilling various other necessary tasks. You will have numerous opportunities to grow in this department and explore advanced positions if desired, such as Surgical Nurse, PACU and others.
A caregiver in this position works rotating days/nights from 7:00AM - 7:30PM and 7:00PM - 7:30AM, with every other holiday requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide direct nursing care.
- Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
- Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing protocol.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
- Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
- Maintain professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within one year of hire based on the department service
- Two years of recent related nursing experience for external applicants
- Less than two years and successful completion of post-orientation/90-day probationary period with Chief Nursing Officer approval for internal applicants
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:
- Full range of body motion for handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
- Working under stressful conditions and irregular hours
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
- Medium Work, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Physical Demand requirements in excess of those for Light Work
