AWS Commerce Platform International Expansion team is looking for a passionate, talented, and inventive Applied Scientist with a strong machine learning background to help build industry-leading language technology. This is a critical role for SoR Auto Scoping Service (SoRAS) to deliver AI driven requirement understanding and enable AWS to accelerate our international expansion.

Key job responsibilities
As an Applied Scientist in AWS International Expansion, you will be a scientific leader driving innovation in AI-driven compliance solutions across the globe, leveraging your expertise in machine learning and natural language processing. You'll design novel solutions for complex regulatory challenges while optimizing data infrastructure through vector data stores evaluation and industry-leading embedding techniques for compliance processing. Taking ownership of critical components, you'll develop scalable, production-grade AI systems with robust evaluation frameworks and conduct thorough analyses of LLM performance. You'll make strategic trade-offs between immediate business needs and long-term technological advancement, while establishing engineering best practices and continuously enhancing system performance through iterative feedback loops. Your influence will extend across teams as you explore innovative approaches to knowledge representation and drive discussions with stakeholders. Through active participation in the broader AI research community, staying at the forefront of emerging technologies, and leadership in technical documentation, you'll foster collaboration between research and engineering teams to ensure successful deployment of scientific innovations in AI governance and compliance generation processes.

Utility Computing (UC)
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in building machine learning models for business application
- Experience in building speech recognition, machine translation and natural language processing systems (e.g., commercial speech products or government speech projects)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
