Job Description:
Responsible for administration of ionizing radiation to patients of all ages for diagnostic and/or research purposes, providing patient services, and performing radiographic procedures using radiographic modalities. Will also be responsible for performing tasks to support pre-analytical and post- analytical functions within Essentia Health Laboratories. Promotion of patient safety while performing specimen collection and processing.
Education Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities:
- General x-ray: Performing supervised and unsupervised x-ray exams in an outpatient & inpatient setting
- Providing optimal patient care utilizing established and accepted techniques during administration of ionizing radiation for diagnostic imaging that is appropriate for the age of the involved patient population (ages 0 to death)
- Upon proven competency, operators are limited by the exams they can perform on small children and babies. Evaluation of abilities is approved and documented by a manager or QA Tech
- Safe transfers of patients to and from wheelchairs/carts with knowledge of safe handoff
- Assist with department workflow by completing exams in EPIC/PACS and cleaning/stocking exam rooms
- Following instruction from staff technologists and establishing good communication with other departments
- Collects specimens through venipuncture or capillary skin puncture and other miscellaneous specimens (Urine, swabs, etc.)
- Performs specimen processing and handling according to testing requirements to support clinical laboratory testing
- Performs laboratory testing, when applicable, per accreditation and licensure requirements
- Participates in training of new employees, students, and other personnel as appropriate
- Follows Essentia Health rules and policies while handling specimens and equipment to ensure safety and quality
Educational Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Graduate from a Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or complete an internal MLA training program within 1 year of hire
Licensure/Certification Qualifications:
Certification/Licensure Requirements:
- Minnesota: Complete Basic Radiographic Operator training and successfully pass the Minnesota Radiology Exam with 3 months of hire
- North Dakota: Must hold current Limited X-ray machine Operator (LXMO) licensure through the North Dakota Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board (NDBMIRT) upon hire
- Valid MN Department of Health x-ray Operator Certificate or ND Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board of Examiners certificate, dependent on state of work location
