Surgical Technologist Responsibilities:
CSTs form an important part of the surgical care team. They are responsible for patient transfers to and from the OR, situating patients on the operating table, prepping them for surgery, and assisting the physician during surgery. Additionally, surgical techs are trained in aseptic technique and are tasked with cleaning and sterilizing the OR and surgical instruments. Some operating room technicians may even manage the surgical supply inventory and place orders to ensure that surgeons have all the necessary tools and materials. CSTs can choose to specialize in particular case types and can select their clinical setting, as they are readily employable in acute care hospitals and outpatient surgery centers.
Surgical Technologist Qualifications:
- 1+ year of recent experience in this setting
- National Certification, certification by the NBSTSA highly recommended
- Valid Surgical Technologist license or registration if required by this state
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
