Registered Nurse (RN) - First Assist
An RN First Assist works closely with surgeons during operative procedures, providing direct patient care, including surgical instrument handling, tissue manipulation, and suturing under the surgeon’s supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the surgeon in maintaining a clear operative field, controlling bleeding, and closing incisions.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient assessments and education.
- Prepare the operating room and ensure all instruments and supplies are available.
- Maintain strict sterile technique and safety protocols during surgery.
- Document surgical interventions and communicate patient needs to the care team.
Work Environment:
- Primarily in hospital operating rooms or specialized surgical centers.
- Requires advanced perioperative training and certification as a First Assist (RNFA).
- Demands close collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and OR teams.
